Filta-Tec has shown why replacing cartridge filters with new filters can be a costly practice and why recycling your air filters is important. Even for a non-believer, it’s difficult to dismiss the advantages of an outstanding product and cleaning system and the one-on-one service of Filta-Tec.
Since its inception this expanding organization has been an advocate of recycled filters and is now one of the most accomplished recyclers in the air filtration industry.
Our Recycling Procedure
Handling Instructions / Shipping Preparation
This first step is very important and should be addressed with all employees involved with the cartridge handling. Up until now, the air filter cartridges have been thrown away. The filters need to be seen as a cost savings product that has an extended life. Therefore, all filters need to be handled just like a new one. When performing a filter change out, BAG the dirty/used filters and place them right in the boxes that the new ones came out of. If no boxes are available, you can bag the filters. When palletizing, place 18 (26”) cartridges, stacking two high on (1) 4’ x 4’ pallet. Shrink wrap the boxed (bagged) cartridges. Please make sure that the shrink wrap catches the pallet. This will secure the cartridges to the pallet and decrease damage during transportation. Also, place the cartridges in a dry area until shipped. Keep in mind that proper filter handling, packaging, maintenance schedules and environment all can affect the amount of times the filters can be recycled.
Air Filter Cartridge Identification
Once the filters are in house and ready to be cleaned, they are identified and numbered. Your facility will receive a letter abbreviation followed by the filter number and date(s) cleaned. The following is an example of the numbering system.
ABC: ABC company air filter cartridge.
ABC-24 : 24th filter to be recycled.
ABC-24-214 : This filter was cleaned in February, the second month, of 2014.
ABC-24-214-615 : This filter was cleaned again in June, the sixth month, of 2015.
Cleaning Procedure
Once your filters are logged in they go through several steps to completion. Filters are visually inspect for noticeable damage (ie. torn/missing gaskets, torn media, dented end caps, damaged inner cores). Damaged filters are automatically rejected before being placed into the cleaning equipment. Cleanable cartridges are placed in the equipment with computerized controlled air, vacuum, vibration and rotation cycles to safely restore them to their maximum operating efficiency.
Once the cartridges are cleaned, the differential pressure is checked with a manometer reading. Over the years, we have collected initial (new) manometer reading on various cartridges. We allow for a difference in differential pressure of .4”. If the cartridges fall within this range, they are light inspected. Provided there are no pinholes, the cartridges are bagged, boxed (if provided) and palletized for return.
Waste Disposal
There is no waste disposal fee for rejected air filter cartridges or for the waste product. All waste is approved to be disposed of in the local commercial landfill.
